Diploma thesis

The diploma thesis project deals with the underdeveloped part of the well known territory – the North of Ķīpsala island. It analyzes and models the development scenario that strengthens the local identity in stages through historical, social and spatial aspects.
The North of Ķīpsala together with Andrejsala has a huge potential to create the Riga water gate, therefore on the project’s first development phase on the side of the island is planned a residential bridge to mark the gate, which reflects the history of the island’s formation. This bridge creates a landmark on the northern end of the island in a people friendly way, it connects Ķīpsala North part with planned development project in Podrags area. As the design of the bridge is planned to include liveable units, it will serves both as a gathering place for the island’s inhabitants and as an innovation center for cooperation between universities and the private sector.
